History for Student Painters

Robert began painting in 1980, and was invited into a professional gallery exhibiton with his third painting, notably, a seascape. Ongoing exhibition and acceptance into further galleries led to many successful sales and the ability for Robert to work professionally. During this early time, Robert toured much of NSW painting and learning the techniques and craft of landscape and then figure painting, and developed his own vision for his artistic expression. Robert also carved a seven feet tall wooden sculpture and developed his own industry contacts through personal approach to clients.

Robert then opened a fine art gallery in Coffs Harbour, NSW, in February, 1988, which the next year grew into a larger premises with five major exhibition rooms and promotion facilities for extensive exhibition work. Through the "Robert John Bosler Galleries" Robert sold his own works along with well known contemporary artists, as well as Australian investment and historic paintings. This period laid the foundation for his creative vision, where he sold works to many visiting collectors from around the world. Within twelve months of opening the original gallery, Robert reached a top sales price for a work in oils of $11,400. Robert also established an Investment Art Appraisal and Valuation service and began learning about art and its influence with the public, exhibitions and promotions, the media, in that time. An Art Director was appointed to the gallery to continue selling the work, and the studios were full each day of busy students and big paintings developing. During this time, many dozens of students were taught landscape, figure and inspirational painting. At one point there were over ninety students on the books. Three of those students went on to full professional careers: more than the average national art school results. Robert also created major exhibitions for his students.

Many career highlights were achieved during this time, such as televised exhibitions throughout Sydney and client commissions and sales. Robert feels he has been blessed with the support and assistance given him over these years. One art collector was so pleased with his commissioned painting by Robert that he imported a block of Italian Carrara marble as a gift of thanks to Robert, which Robert promptly carved without training. (see below)

In 1991, Robert then closed the gallery to concentrate on his painting career by opening a studio in Glebe, Sydney. Here he developed the contacts made through the Coffs Harbour gallery and it was through the Glebe studio that the next phase of career achievements were made. Robert sold paintings through the studio to private collectors to the sale price of $25,000. He achieved an art dealership and sold major works to famous Australian collectors for the same price range. It was in these studios that Robert mastered the Fine Art Techniques of oil painting, and developed the way in which these techniques could be taught to a person of little or no artistic background. This teaching has been described as the best in the world by some professional advocates, including Anthony Roland, of The Roland Collection (www.roland-collection.com). During this time students from the National Art School in Sydney engaged Robert for personal tuition to assist them to achieve in their personal artistic endeavours towards a professional career.

Robert moved back to Coffs Harbour five years later to open a large studio nearer the sea; from there continued to sell his works through his dealership in Sydney and to studio clients. Robert continued teaching students and in this time produced the Fine Art Techniques Video package, four hours of what has been described as the most comprehensive techniques teaching in the world. This video was accepted into the Roland Collection of filmmakers for worldwide distribution. This is an elite collection of the world's best art films where the video has been described as being the most advanced and successful teaching of Fine Art Techniques worldwide and having the potential makings of a classic.

Robert painted extensive exhibitions during all these periods, and continued selling works worldwide. One notable series painted was the major exhibition entitled "Sydney Icons", which was a collection of twelve images of famous areas of Sydney, and the exhibition was held and promoted in Darling Park, Sydney, to a worldwide audience during the time Sydney hosted the Olympic Games in 2000.

In the latter half of the year 2001, Robert has created the new video series which exhibits what he terms is his life's work. Some twelve years ago, Robert conceived of a simple and yet profound teaching of creativity. The Laws For Creativity thus came into being. This teaching embodies all the great spiritual truths and teachings, and is a very practical as well as philosophical presentation, able to be shared and enjoyed by all. Realising he had something special to offer, Robert spent those twelve years testing his knowledge through his own life and in direct discussion with his students and associates over the years. Finally, Robert felt his teaching had passed the test of time and produced his teaching through a video series, where the Laws For Creativity are now available.

Robert's philosophy is very simple: he believes that all people are naturally creative beings and that everyone can create powerful works of art. He fervently resists the common held notion in art circles that art is a matter for the elite: whether it be the creation of it or the simple enjoyment of it. It is, to him, everyone's right and natural place to be a part of, in whatever way they choose.
