Artist's notes:
These pieces here represent an attempt to push the fine art techniques
to
their limit as an exercise of discovery. Finding the limit was an unqualified
failure! The 900 by 600 pieces each have been worked on over sixty
times. They were begun in February and I could have worked on each
of them for another 60 sessions and still be no closer to the end limit
of where they could go. I've signed them and framed them
out of happy
exhaustion and resigned defeat, further acknowledgement of the
wonders
of the journey in art. I'm glad this lot's done.
Subject wise, the inspiration for them was the glorious Sydney Harbour
and its developed heart, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The curves of
these elements, of themselves, and their relationship to each other is perfect
and magical. They cannot be celebrated enough. An attempt is made to reflect
and celebrate these curves in the sails in some of the pieces. An attempt
also is made to honour the equal physicality of each of the elements in the
paintings - the Bridge, House, sea, sails and the air itself.
16 slightly smaller works added here upon photographing, soon.
Meanwhile, the next works, a series of large paintings of interdimensional
subject matter,
have just begun.
